Helpful Suggestions for Parents with a Child in the NICU
Keep a detailed list of the names and phone numbers/contact numbers for all of those providing care to your infant, both in the hospital and after discharge, including: The neonatologist, the lead nurse, the CareNex Health Services Case Manager or Care Coordinator, home health agencies, clinics, etc. Keep this list with you at all times, on your person (wallet or purse) and posted near your phone at home.

• What types of tests will be done on my baby?

• What medicines will my baby have to take?

• How will I be informed of any major change in my baby's condition?

• How will this equipment or medication help my baby?

• Who should I call if I have questions about my baby's condition?

• What can my baby eat... and when?

• Will someone help me learn how to nurse my baby?

• How often and for how long can I stay in the NICU?

• Are there any accommodations (sleeping, sitting, etc) for parents?

• What kinds of articles can I bring into the NICU?

• Can other family members visit my baby?

• What sort of care will my baby need when we get home?

• Is there someone who can help us through the process? (Yes, your CareNex Case Manager)
